Every homeowner worries about having difficult neighbors. But what if, after you move in, your neighbor changes their house so much that it’s really hard to look at?
Well, in a suburb near Austin, Texas, one man is getting criticism for painting his house a really bright Pepto-Bismol pink. It’s causing some discomfort among the people who live nearby.
In most U.S. neighborhoods, there’s something called a Homeowners Association or HOA. It helps make sure all the houses look similar and can also pay for things that benefit everyone in the community.
But a guy named Emilio Rodriguez bought a house in Pflugerville, Texas on purpose because it doesn’t have an HOA. That way, he could make his dream come true and paint everything pink. However, this choice is causing some issues with his neighbors.
Emilio said, “I love this house. I don’t know why people don’t like it.” When he got the house, it was a beige color, but now he’s painting it his favorite color, Pepto-Bismol pink. And he plans to paint even more parts of his home pink.
Pink makes Emilio happy. His neighbors don’t like the pink house, and they worry it might lower property values in the area.
But Emilio, who uses a wheelchair because of a car accident and health problems, says the color of his house brings him joy. He also thinks it adds to the unique and quirky atmosphere of “Keep Austin Weird.”
Watch the clip below to find out what else Emilio plans to paint pink.
In my opinion, it’s important to appreciate your neighbors. You can also see this unique-colored house as a helpful landmark for your friends, delivery people, and others to find your home easily. We had a neighbor with a similar colored house before, and she was great— one of the best neighbors we ever had. You’ll get used to it over time.
Please share this story with your friends and family to hear what they think about this house.
