Comedian, actor, and radio personality DL Hughly got his comedy start in the early ’90s on the popular series ComicView. From there, he appeared on several other programs like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Sister Sister, and Double Rush before scoring a starring role in The Hughleys. The show depicted DL and his fictional family. In real life, DL is a married father of three. DL met LaDonna over three decades ago, tying the knot in 1986.
LaDonna Hughley is said to be an actress as well as a filmmaker. She starred opposite her husband on their reality television show, The DL Hugley Show, and has produced other projects like the 2013 documentary Colored My Mind. She also appeared in the 2017 reality series Black Love. Mr. and Mrs. Hughley met while working for a telephone company. They welcomed their first child, Ryan Hughley, in 1987. The other children, Kyle and Tyler, were born in 1988 and 1991.
Despite presenting a seemingly idyllic image, the Hughley family has had to overcome its share of challenges. At one point, he fathered a child outside of their marriage, and this fact remained concealed from her. Tragically, the child passed away. Initially, DL had intended to keep this information a secret from LaDonna, but he eventually reached a breaking point and revealed the truth to her.
DL was taken aback by LaDonna’s response, as she confessed to wishing she had been informed about the situation, so he wouldn’t have had to go through it alone. Years later, DL coincidentally encountered the woman at an airport. When he introduced her to his wife, she expressed her condolences with the words, “I’m sorry for your loss.” Subsequently, LaDonna began providing financial assistance to the woman. DL found it difficult to interact with her and soon, LaDonna took over managing the financial support provided to the woman, with the stipulation that it would come from DL’s “allowance.”
DL candidly shared, “So, I don’t know if she’s still giving it to her or not. But I know that I don’t get that money anymore, and I can’t go, ‘Are you still?…’ I can’t do that.”
