Oprah Winfrey is in hot water over comments she made about “thin people” and weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic.
Oprah made the comments in a conversation with Dr. Ania Jastreboff on the latest episode of her podcast.
The talk show icon recently revealed that taking Ozempic opened her eyes to the truth about “thin people.” She said that she previously believed people were thin because they had “willpower”.
But Oprah was forced to reconsider her thought process when she started taking the miracle weight loss drug GLP-1.
“One of the things that I realized the very first time I took a GLP-1 was that all these years, I thought that thin people had more willpower,” Oprah admitted. “They ate better foods. They were able to stick to it longer. They never had a potato chip.”
“And then I realized the very first time I took the GLP-1 that, they’re not even thinking about it,” the billionaire said.
Oprah explained that thin people eat whatever they want because they don’t suffer from obesity, which is a disease.
“They’re eating when they’re hungry and they’re stopping when they’re full,” she added.

Social media users criticized Oprah for lumping all thin people into one category. They rejected Oprah’s theory that thin people “don’t think” about eating.
One X user wrote: “@Oprah this is NOT true. People are thin bc they prioritize eating nutrient dense food and protein.”
Another person wrote: “I work hard to stay in shape and maintain a ‘thin’ physique, but there’s never a time when I’m in a calorie deficit that I don’t think about food or want to eat. It all comes down to discipline – or the lack of it.”
A third person tweeted: “Her whole life, she’s been pushing weight loss. At what point do women stop listening to her?”
Ozempic, Wegovy and GLP-1 causes weight loss by paralyzing the stomach which reduces food cravings.
Oprah told Dr. Jastreboff, “Every week [I was] exploited by the tabloids. Anytime any comedian wanted to make fun or make a joke about it, they would make a joke about it. And I accepted it because I thought I deserved it.”
Oprah caused controversy when she denied taking Ozempic to lose 50 pounds. Her denials caused tension between Oprah and WeightWatchers. She resigned from the board of WeightWatchers and donated her stake in the company to a charity.
Oprah continued to deny taking weight loss drugs until she realized there was money to be made in admitting the truth.
In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Oprah confessed her use of weight-loss drugs. “I now use it as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yo-ing.”
“The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for,” she explained.
“I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself,” she added. Oprah said she actively recommended the weight loss aid to other people before deciding to take it herself.
