OJ Simpson’s family confirmed the news in a statement
OJ Simpson has died at the age of 76.
Simpson’s family announced the news in a statement today (11 April), saying the former football star died after being diagnosed with cancer.
“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer,” the family statement said.
“He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
Simpson rose to fame through his football career, in which he played as a running back in the NFL for 11 seasons, primarily with the Buffalo Bills in New York. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers.
In 1995, he gained attention for a more sinister reason as he was tried for the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.
The trial was dubbed the ‘trial of the century’ as millions of people followed the events as they unfolded. Simpson was ultimately found not guilty of the mur-ders.
