“Star Brim, a longtime and intimate friend of Cardi B, has been sentenced to one year and one day in prison. This follows her guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to commit maiming and assault in connection with racketeering, according to reports from Media Take Out.”
Yvonne Respass, known by her alias Star Brim, found herself ensnared in a case that originated during a federal sweep targeting the New York Bloods Gang subset, 5-9 Brims, in 2020. Among the 18 individuals charged with a range of offenses including racketeering, narcotics, firearms offenses, murder, and attempted murder, Star Brim was among them.
Prosecutors allege that as a leader within the gang, Star Brim orchestrated acts of violence in support of her fellow gang associate, Cardi B.
The violence was purportedly aimed at two sisters employed as bartenders at Angel’s, a strip club in Queens, back in August 2018. This incident stemmed from allegations that one of the sisters had engaged in a relationship with Cardi B’s husband, Offset.
Initial reports suggested Cardi B herself had ordered the attack on the two bartenders, later identified as Rachel and Sarah Wattley. However, court documents revealed that while incarcerated in Connecticut during the same year, Star Brim allegedly orchestrated the assault. She was charged with racketeering and for instructing others to carry out the attack.
Despite the severity of the charges, Star Brim received a comparatively lenient sentence. The reasons for this are unclear, though speculation suggests that Cardi B, utilizing her resources, secured top-tier legal representation for her friend. Star Brim now claims to have severed ties with the gang, potentially influencing the outcome of her case.
