NFL star Russell Wilson has found an unlikely ally in rapper Waka Flocka Flame. Wilson continues to get a bad rep from men who cannot understand how his good guy persona helped him bag such a powerful woman. While many clown Russell for being a “square” and “lame,” recently divorced Wake Flocka has something to say about so many grown men speaking on Russell’s family.
Russell Wilson has truly done no wrong on paper. After starting his NFL career in 2012 with his former wife, Ashton Meem, Wilson quickly found success and status. The two were only together for two years but divorced in 2014 for undisclosed reasons. He would eventually find himself in the company of “Goodies” hitmaker Ciara and quickly swooped her off her feet. Ciara had just got out of her relationship with rapper Future, who had left her heartbroken and single with a child.
Ciara’s history of dating rappers like Bow Wow and 50 Cent made Russell Wilson a curious choice for her, but the star has since talked about “praying” for clarity around the men she’s dated and re-accessing her choices around relationships. Russell immediately got clowned, considered by many to be a lame compared to Cici’s “usual type.” In contrast, the NFLer’s ex-wife is nothing like Ciara either. Russell has leaned into his good-boy reputation and has used it to become one of the most beloved players in the league. In 2020 he was named Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year “in recognition of his COVID-19 relief donations and his founding of a charter school, among other charitable efforts.” Him and his wife Ciara have become famous for their charitable efforts and even started a foundation called Why Not You Foundation. They were awarded $250,000 by the Walter Payton organization. Speaking on the honor he said, “In life, we’re granted the opportunity to have an impact, no matter what sphere of influence we’re around.
This year he also received the Action/Bart Starr Award for his outstanding character on the field, at home, and in the community. He joined Eli Manning, Demarco Davis, Peyton Manning, and Thomas Davis. According to their official site, “This award bears the name of Hall of Fame Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr and honors his lifelong commitment to serving as a positive role model to his family, teammates, and community.”
ussell has been winning since stepping on the scene, with his earliest awards being the Pepsi Next Rookie of the Year in 2013. At the time, he was still playing for the Seattle Seahawks and beginning his extensive career with them. It was noted that Wilson caught the eye of head coach Pete Carroll and Seahawks fans with all his proficient play during the pre-season, which propelled him into the starting role for all 16 regular season games.
