T.I. is known for many things. The Atlanta icon got his start as a rapper before becoming an actor, mogul, reality star, and more. The latest title added to his list? Comedian. Could the Rubber Band Man be trading in the recording booth for the comedy stage? Let’s dive into T.I’s career and discuss the many occupations he has tried on over the years and if he’s got what it takes to survive in the comedy world.
Tameka “Tiny” Harris shared a video on her I.G. story of husband T.I doing what appears to be a comedy routine. While the stage and venue looked way smaller than what he is used to for his music show, it was very clear T.I was up there testing out new material. She captioned the post, “This guy @troubleman31. Add stand-up comedian to my loves resume’ & he just getting started.” In the clip, T.I is setting up a punchline for a joke on infidelity. He asks the audience, “You ever get into the area of cheating? That’s no man’s land. Can you be in a committed relationship and still have a friend from the opposite s*x?”
While some agreed, he moved on, saying that “Ladies cheat way better than us.” He then calls cheating a “big D game,” telling men who do not qualify to keep their cheating to themselves before singing his wife’s signature hit “Secret” to a couple of chuckles. Fans in the comments did not seem to find him too funny, which some saying “is he talking about his own infidelities.” Others joke “I am waiting for the punchline,” while one fan just responded with a bunch of tomato emojis.
If T.I. is indeed trying out a new medium, it would not be the first for him. The “Whatever You Like” hitmaker began dabbling in acting way back in 2016’s “ATL,” a film loosely based on his life. Roles in films like Ant-Man, Dolemite Is My Name, and Get Hard have skewed more comedic, but for the most part, he has never been known as a comedian.
On the small screen, T.I has starred in several reality shows as well. He and his wife Tiny are currently in T.I & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle, a spin-off of their original show T.I & Tiny: Family Hustle. Before this, MTV featured him in a docuseries titled T.I.’s Road to Redemption. The series was meant to “focus on the 45 days before rapper T.I.’s sentencing, hoped to encourage teenagers to avoid spending a life of crime by showing seven teenagers that there is another way.” T.I was also a judge on the Netflix hip-hop talent competition Rhythm + Flow alongside Cardi B and Chance the Rapper. His podcast expediTIously with Tip T.I. Harris is a hit on Youtube. His guests have included Nick Cannon, Tyler Perry, and a host of others.
Outside of entertainment, T.I is also an accomplished businessman. He’s appeared on Forbes’s top 10 list of wealthiest rappers four times since its debut in 2007. His last appearance was in 2015. He launched A.K.O.O. clothing back in 2008. A.K.O.O. stands for A King of Oneself. “The direction of the clothing line, in my eyes, is upscale urban apparel,” T.I told MTV back in 2011. Models for the line included Hosea Sanchez, B.o.B, Curtis Granderson, Carl Crawford, Travis Porter, Tristan Wilds, Meek Mill, and Mickey Factz.
The rapper owns and operates a gentlemen’s club in Atlanta called V Live. He’s also one of many part owners of streaming giant Tidal alongside Jay Z, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj, to name a few. Out of all of T.I.’s many hustles, one some may be unfamiliar with was his work as a ghostwriter before establishing himself as a star. T.I.’s pen has helped craft songs for the likes of Diddy, Bow Wow, Iggy Azalea, Dr. Dre, and Bun B. As an executive, he’s helped oversee the careers of B.O.B, Iggy, Travis Scott, and at one point, Meek Mill.
