R&B songstress Keyshia Cole might be taking a step back from the music scene, much to the disappointment of her fans. The Bay Area’s own has been a stalwart presence in the music industry for decades, delivering a string of beloved hits. Her most recent release was “I Don’t Wanna Be in Love” in 2021, and she had been busy in the studio working on new material. However, a recent post suggests that fans may have to wait a bit longer for her return to music.
Keyshia Cole made headlines in recent days after she decided to withdraw her son from Kanye West’s Donda Academy. Initially, she had announced in October her plans for her son to attend Ye’s school. However, she removed him from the academy after he posted a concerning tweet directed at Lil Boosie, where he mentioned being “back to shoot up the school.” In response, Keyshia Cole tweeted, “I took my DJ out of Donda sadly after Ye said he was back to shoot the school up; that scared me a bit.” A concerned fan replied, “Damn. I’m sorry to hear this. He’s so brilliant, but obviously some other stuff going on with him. The idea of the school was dope in theory.” It’s worth noting that Cole and West had previously collaborated on her breakout single, “I Changed My Mind.”
Keyshia Cole swiftly redirected the conversation to her studio work. Her subsequent tweet featured a picture of her working in the studio with the caption, “Wondering what I’m gonna come up with today in the studio.” In the photo, she was seen wearing a fuzzy hat and a white outfit while holding her phone.
On Instagram, she posted the same picture with a slightly altered caption. This time, she informed her fans about her intention to take a break from music after spending “four days locked in the studio.” She expressed the need to focus more deeply on her script, and as a result, she declared her temporary farewell to music, mentioning her upcoming extended stay in Atlanta: “Been great, but really need to dive deeply into the script, so I’m gonna say goodbye to the music for a tad bit… Atlanta, y’all will be seeing me for a month and a half straight.”
