The former Ikette had been holding out hope for a favorable outcome in his case, which was linked to the tragic passing of her grandson, Andre Montgomery. Recent reports shed light on her final plea to the judge before his sentencing.
The family gained fame through the reality series “Welcome to Sweetie Pies,” which aired on the OWN Network from 2011 to 2018, offering viewers a glimpse into their lives. One of the show’s storylines involved Robbie relocating her grandson, Andre Jr., to St. Louis to provide him with a better life and be closer to her. As the series unfolded, tensions between Andre and his uncle Tim became evident, culminating in a shocking turn of events where Tim orchestrated Andre’s murder.
Robbie Montgomery has endured a series of devastating losses in her life. The 82-year-old Mississippi native had her first son, Andre Montgomery Sr., in 1961 with musician Art Lassiter. Tragically, Andre lost his life in 1995 in Los Angeles, leaving behind his son, Andre Montgomery Jr. Robbie welcomed her second son, James Timothy Norman, in 1979 and had a close relationship with him, eventually making him a manager at her Sweetie Pie’s restaurant on Manchester Avenue in St. Louis.
Throughout the ordeal, Robbie stood by her son, expressing disbelief in his capacity to harm his nephew. It has been reported that Andre attempted to warn Robbie about Tim’s intentions, but she did not take his concerns seriously. Tim claimed he was trying to be a father figure to his nephew and had taken out an insurance policy to help a family friend, Waiel Rebhi Yaghnam, with his business.
Although Miss. Robbie was not asked to speak during the trial, she submitted a letter in support of her son before his sentencing. In her heartfelt letter, she implored the judge for mercy, saying, “As a mother, I am devastated that my son has been accused and convicted of these crimes. But I am pleading to God through you for mercy. Tim is my only living son. I lost my other son to violence in the streets of Los Angeles when Tim was only 15 years old.”
Montgomery’s letter did not provide specific evidence in support of her son but instead conveyed the overwhelming grief she has experienced from losing Andre Sr., Andre Jr., and now potentially Tim. She asked the judge to offer their family a glimmer of hope for redemption.
In her letter, Montgomery emphasized that the man presented to the court did not resemble the son she raised and knew. She remarked, “The long-term scheming and plotting that was outlined at trial is not the man I have known.”
Tim also issued his own statement on social media, asserting his innocence a week before receiving a life sentence. He declared, “I did not engage in those insurance policies. The jury did not have the opportunity to hear that. They have tarnished my name.”
