Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is back in the hospital this week.
Coach Prime, as he’s affectionately called, has been dealing with issues stemming from blood clots in his legs and feet. The hereditary ailment already claimed two of his toes after it was speculated that he could lose his entire leg. Now he’s undergone emergency surgery, and fans are worried.
On Friday, Pat McAfee tweeted, “Deion Sanders is having emergency surgery tomorrow for a blood clot in his groin… You got this, Coach Prime #PMSLive.” McAfee was passing along the news he got from Adam (Pacman) Jones, who confirmed that Sanders went into emergency surgery at 6 am on June 22nd.
The sad medical update is the latest in a long road for Coach Prime. He revealed in 2021 that his family has a history of blood clotting and that he was on track to lose his leg up to the knee. At the time, the world-renowned athlete was eager to just get it over with and move on with his life.
He had used a wheelchair for a bit. It seemed like things were moving in a better direction for him after his amputations, and fans are hoping this latest surgery does not leave him permanently handicapped.
In a statement released to his social media Thursdays, Sanders said, “I went to the doctors the other day to check myself out, and I have two clots in my leg. One in my right leg, one in my left leg in my thigh.”
