John Amos’ daughter Shannon says she learned about the Good Times star’s death through the media.
“We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you,” Shannon Amos captioned a post on Instagram.
“This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free,” she added.
Amos, popularly known for his role as patriarch James Evans Sr. On Good Times died in Los Angeles on August 21st at 84.
His death, from natural causes, was announced by his son, Kelly Christopher Amos (K.C.) on October 1st.
“It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned,” K.C. said in a statement.
“He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold … and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shannon and K.C have been locked in a bitter dispute over their dad’s care and legacy, with Shannon even publicly accusing her brother K.C. of elder abuse, a claim he has vehemently denied.
At the time, Shannon, an entertainment executive turned healer told the news outlet she provided substantial documentation to law enforcement in Colorado and New Jersey, accusing her brother of gradually taking control over their father’s affairs. She alleged that her brother “brainwashed” their father and cut him off from close associates.
She also accused her brother of impersonating their father in communications, neglecting his medical needs, mishandling his finances, and eroded his father’s legacy, allegations he denied.
K.C. who has been developing a documentary about his dad titled America’s Dad, told The Hollywood Reporter that his sister’s actions were part of a “character assassination” campaign to paint him as “unfit.”
In addition to “Good Times,” Amos was beloved for his roles in “Roots,” “The West Wing,’ and “Coming To America.”
“Many fans consider him their TV father,” K.C. wrote in a statement. “He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor…. He was my dad, my best friend, and my hero.”

and
In honor of John Amos passing here is arguably one of his best scenes from ‘The West Wing’.
This scene not only shows the amazing acting of Amos but it also illustrates how to be an ally and a voice for those who may not be present to defend themselves
Rest in Peace, John ????️ pic.twitter.com/sIZFyYf0vY
