Gabourey Sidibe and her fiance Brandon Frankel were on the cover of Brides’ digital Style issue. They talked about their plans for their wedding, which they say will happen in the spring of 2023.
After meeting on the dating app Raya, the couple got engaged in October 2020. At first, they wanted to keep things so low-key that they thought about not having a wedding at all.
Sidibe said in the cover story, “The whole time we were engaged, I was always like, ‘No, we shouldn’t have a wedding.’” “Maybe we’ll have a barbecue, get married in the bathroom, and then tell everyone we’re married when we come out.”
After having a change of heart, she knows she wants to celebrate their love with a fun, unique event.
“This can’t be a normal wedding. “No, that can’t be true,” she said. “I don’t want anything to be done the ‘standard’ way. We have a lot of control over our relationship, and I want it to be fun, like a real party.
And since the theme is anything but traditional, the bride-to-be doesn’t want a white dress. Instead, she wants a dress with bright colors and prints, and instead of curls or updos, she wants Senegalese twists or cornrows.
“To be honest, I’ll probably wear something with an African print on my wedding day. She said, “It might have some white in it so it looks like a wedding dress, but it will definitely be colorful.”
And nothing gives a party more color than culture. The actress wants to combine her Senegalese background with Frankel’s Jewish background, probably by making a special meal.
“It’s very important to me that my culture be a part of the wedding. In the last few years, I’ve been giving him Senegalese food, especially during the pandemic, she said. “It will have touches of both Africa and Israel. I want his past to be there for sure, because we are working together.”
No matter how things turn out, she loved the chance to feel like a bride a year before the wedding.
“This was way more fun than I thought it would be! She’s a bride, a cover girl, and a woman who is very loved. Sidibe wrote on Instagram, “Lucky me.” “Thank you, @brides, for having me and my groom, @brandontour, who looks so handsome in his suits!!!! We’re glad this was a dress practice for our real wedding!”
