#Socialites, are you here for it? Fat Joe is trying to take credit for reuniting his good sis Ashanti and her boo Nelly!
While taking to his Instagram live on Saturday (January 20), the Bronx rapper was speaking on Ashanti and Nelly’s romantic reunion and claimed that if it wasn’t for his and Ja Rule‘s hit-for-hit battle back in September 2021, the two lovebirds might not have reunited, officially as of September 2023.
As we all know, Nelly and Ashanti had a whirlwind romance back in the early 2000s, 2003 to be exact. The two Grammy Award-winning artists dated each other for 10 years and then would reunite another 10 years later. It was never fully understood why the two initially broke up, but whenever they were asked about each other over the years, they would remain coy about their relationship and split.
In a clip from his IG live, Fat Joe said, “You know, we brought back Ashanti and Nelly. They look so happily ever after. So, the other day, Ashanti FaceTimed me with Nelly. They were like, ‘Hey, bro. This, this, that.’ And do you remember that they had the rumor that she was pregnant? It was just a rumor.”
Fat Joe continued, “I immediately told them that I need ten percent of this kid. Because, if it wasn’t for VERZUZ, [where] I brought Nelly out [for] me against Ja Rule, that’s when they saw each other, and that energy connected again. That’s when [Nelly] said, ‘I gotta have her.’”
Fat Joe recalled the whole scene at the hit-for-hit battle, where Nelly was on one side of the stage and Ashanti was on the other, standing beside Irv Gotti‘s brother Chris Gotti. Fat Joe said, “Now, he was over there contemplating… He really wanted to go over there… But, he was contemplating and my brother Mayor was like, ‘Yo bro, what the f**k you waiting?’”
Fat Joe continued, “So, he goes over there and that starts the conversation. You know, somebody gotta crack the ice. I don’t know why they fell out.”
