Boosie Says He Walked Out of ‘The Color Purple’ Because The Movie Was An LGBTQ Love Story

The new movie The Color Purple is currently in theaters, and many of the filmgoers who saw the remake of the film were shocked by the difference between the “new” version and the 1985 one.

The new movie – just like the book – focused more heavily on Celie being a lesbian and her love affair with Shug.

In Steven Spielberg’s 1985 feature adaptation of The Color Purple, the characters of Celie and Shug share a chaste kiss, but not much else hints at the love affair that was integral to author Alice Walker’s novel on which the movie was based.

Nut the new movie is much more in line with Alec Walker’s book, and the many LGBTQ+ themes of the book – are hitting some filmgoers pretty hard.

One filmgoer who was particularly upset with the film’s changes is rapper Boosie. The rapper claims that he “walked out” of the movie, because of it’s over the top LGBTQ scenes.

Boosie wrote, “| HAD TO WALK OUT THIS COLOR PURPLE MOVIE (N TWO OTHER OLDER COUPLES WALKED OUT ALSO.)”

He added, “BECAUSE | HAD MY LITTLE GIRLS WITH ME N IT SEEMED LIKE A @ LOVE STORY GOOD ACTING BUT WHOEVER WROTE THE SCRIPT IS PUSHING THE NARRATIVE HARD.”

He continued, “AS A PARENT | WILL NOT LET MY LITTLE GIRL WATCH THIS FILM.”
