A duo from Florida has been abducted in HAITI and remains captive under ransom demands. Family members of the duo are asking for help and pressuring US officials to discover them.
Married duo Abigail and Jean-Dickens Toussaint, both 33, were visiting family in Haiti when they got kidnapped on March 18 somewhere around Port-au-Prince.
As per to details shared by family members, Abigail and Jean-Dickens Toussaint were traveling on a bus from Port-au-Prince, the nation’s capital.
A family friend who encounter the duo at the airport and escorted them on the bus was also reportedly abducted along with the duo.
“They stopped the bus at a stop and they questioned for the Americans on the bus and their escorts to come off the bus and then they took them,” their niece Christie told.
“Please share this and get the word out as much as you can,” a statement by the family told. They are hoping that the duo would return home safely to their 2-year-old kid.
A US State Department spokesperson told outlet that they are “aware of reports of two U.S. citizens missing in Haiti.”
“When a U.S. citizen is missing, we work closely with local authorities as they carry out their search efforts, and we share details with families but we can,” the spokesperson told.
The kidnapper’s initial demand was $6,000 for the duo’s release, but when their family put together the money to pay off, they increased the ransom amount.
The couple’s family opened that the kidnappers later increased the demand to $400,000.
“Once we sent that money, they tried to up the price to $200,000 per person and we don’t have that type of money,” Christie told WPLG.
Their fellow church members at First Haitian Baptist Church of Pompano Beach are trying to help the family and created a swap .org petition questioning for support and prayers.
