He did more than serenade her. He gave her strength and peace when she needed it most.
Marissa English, a 25-year-old young lady, was born with numerous health conditions. She had water and a cyst on her brain that was inoperable.
She also had severe scoliosis and cerebral palsy.
She was also a huge fan of Keith Urban.
She wanted to go to Keith’s concert.
It was Marissa’s dream to got see Keith Urban at a real, live concert.
She desperately wanted this dream to come true, so she tried her best to make sure she got the tickets before they sold out.
She also made sure she was fit. Marissa was still hopeful that she’d be strong enough to attend Keith Urban’s live concert performance in Toledo, Ohio.
She felt so happy when she finally got her tickets!
Unfortunately, before the date of the concert, Marissa’s health rapidly declined. Due to her worsened condition, she wasn’t able to attend.
She was heartbroken because she knew this would be her last chance to see Keith Urban.
Nurse Jan Cassidy, along with the other nurses, saw Marissa’s eyes, and she knew this young man wanted to see the famous singer.
Her nurse put in a request.
Another nurse, Laura Szyperski Biel, posted a social media campaign to contact Keith Urban, last October 2018.
“We are trying very hard to get the message to him of what it would mean for him to stop and see this patient while he is in town,” Biel said in her post.
A long shot, but they had to try.
Soon, Keith saw the messages pouring in on social media.
He cleared his schedule and visited Marissa.
She was staying at the Mercy Children’s Hospital at that time. And true enough, one day, the legendary Keith Urban walked into Marissa’s hospital room and greeted her.
The best day of Marissa’s life.
“He sat with her and held her hand and talked to her and sang with her,” Marlise Matthews, Marissa’s mom said to ABC 13. “It was priceless. I mean, a dream come true.”
According to Marissa’s mom, her daughter adored Keith Urban so much that she even has pillows wrapped with Keith’s shirt!
She would hug and kiss the pillow and call it “Mr. Hottie.”
It was her way of dealing with her condition.
Keith Urban makes her happy.
Keith Urban was so touched by this that he called Marissa, “my biggest fan.”
Because Marissa is Keith’s biggest fan, it was just right that Keith sang to her.
After they talked, he gave her something special.
He sang “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”
Everyone watched as Keith serenaded Marissa. They were all teary-eyed.
“The overall calming effect it had on her, too,” Matthews said. “She’s been having a lot of difficult days, but she relaxed. Her heart rate actually came down which surprises me because I thought it would go up, but she was just enjoying the moment,” said Matthews.
Following his visitation to Marissa, Keith dedicated his next concert to Marissa, and he also acknowledged all the nurses who did all they could to contact him.
Marissa’s dream came true and it gave her the strength to fight and be strong.
Unfortunately, Matthews posted an update on her Facebook account that Marissa had passed away.
Marissa lived her life to the fullest. She was surrounded by the people who loved her and she is now guiding these people from up there.
